MLS Pre-Master's (Academic English) Programme

The MLS Pre-Master's (Academic English) programme is designed for students who typically wish to progress to Master’s study in the UK, but need to improve their general and academic English language and study skills.  It is also suitable for undergraduate entry.  
 
The MLS specialised Pre Master's courses enable students to study certain concepts and learn specific language and communication skills associated with further postgraduate study in their chosen field.  The minimum age is 20 years and the study options are as follows: 
 
Pre Master's Certificate in Management:  12 weeks.  Entry level Intermediate (equivalent to IELTS 4.5/CEFR B1).  The course includes English for IELTS study; English Language or International Business Communications, management, leadership and human resources topics, plus Academic English Language and a Masters level resarch project.
 
Pre Master's Certificate in Marketing:  12 weeks.  Entry level Intermediate (equivalent to IELTS 4.5/CEFR B1).  The course includes English for IELTS study; English Language or International Business Communications, marketing, advertising and public relations topics, plus Academic English Language and a Masters level research project.
 
Pre Master's Certificate in Finance:  12 weeks.  Entry level Intermediate (equivalent to IELTS 4.5/CEFR B1).  The course includes English for IELTS study; English Language or International Business Communications, finance and financial services topics, plus Academic English Language and a Masters level research project.

Pre Master's Certificate in Legal Studies:  12 weeks.  Entry level Intermediate (equivalent to IELTS 4.5/CEFR B1).  The course includes English for IELTS study; English Language or International Business Communications, legal studies topics, plus Academic English Language and a Masters level research project.
 
The Pre Master's courses cover the same specialised content Study Units as the university foundation and BBSI vocational courses, allowing students from all course types to study together and benefit from each other's knowledge and experience (the courses then differ within the supplementary parts of each course).  The number of topics covered will depend on the duration of the course and the dates selected.  The full course description can be viewed here.

Working in collaboration with its university partners MLS has successfully provided Pre-Master's programmes since 1987.  The new, adapted programme for 2016 is designed to be more flexible offering weekly start dates and a choice of study Elements to suit your particular study needs.  (Subject to timetabling availability.)

Course start dates:  The course entry dates for the specialised Study Units of the above courses are at the start of each term and mid-term annually (ie every six weeks).  However, MLS operates a flexible entry system for these courses, enabling students to start the international business communications element of the course on most Mondays throughout the year, and then join the specialised Study Units on the next available entry date.  
 
Class size: 14 for English and IBC, 16 for speciaised study units

  • First degree (for those progressing to Master's programmes in the UK)
