1.04 CAE PREPARATION
This is typically a 12 week course, aimed at preparing students for the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English Examination, which represents a high level of competence in English suitable for professional or study purposes. The CAE is internationally recognised and can fulfil entrance requirements to the majority of UK universities and higher education institutions.
Course Content
Students receive preparation in the skills and items required for the five papers involved.
Reading Finding the main idea and specific information at speed. Understanding advanced-level cohesive devices and content links. Identifying metaphorical language and different styles and types of text organisation.
Writing Writing a wide range of text types with accuracy and fluency. Writing summaries. Using the appropriate style and register.
English in Use Selecting the right vocabulary. Using the vast majority of structures accurately. Correcting errors. Forming words from roots. Choosing the most appropriate style and register. Using methods of linking within texts
Listening Obtaining information from monologues and dialogues. Identifying speakers, ideas, opinions and information.
Completing sentences or writing notes from information given
Speaking Improving fluency, communicative ability, task achievement, grammatical accuracy, pronunciation and vocabulary. Introducing and discussing a topic, employing common conventions and strategies of spoken communication, including negotiation.
